November 6 - Relating to the Jewish Community: Rabbi Anna Beroli will return to speak to us. She will speak about interfaith dialogue that includes the 60th anniversary of Nostra Aetate, a Vatican II declaration on the relationship with the Jewish Community and the Catholic Church. She will also include a discussion about Jewish holiday traditions.

Our new pope belongs to the Augustinians, an order whose charism emphasizes the proper role of "the heart". Join us this Fall to learn more about the saint who inspired the Augustinians and heavily influenced the early Church, St. Augustine of Hippo. We will be reading "Return to the Heart: The Biblical Spirituality of St. Augustine's Confessions." Meetings will be on Thursdays from September 25 through November 13 in the Parish Center Ignite Room (second floor).

The Walking With Purpose (WWP) Bible study combines personal study workbooks with small group discussions, linking our everyday challenges to the solutions given to us through the teachings of Christ and the Catholic Church.

Professor John Dahmus will be presenting a class on “The History of Ancient Israel” beginning Friday, October 17 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in the Cenacle. This class will cover the entire Old Testament period from the creation accounts in Genesis to the Jewish revolts in 66-74 AD and 132-135 AD. The Old Testament records the biblical writers’ understanding of their past in terms of their theology; these authors did not write history in the modern sense of the word. This class will explain the biblical period in terms of what really happened, not the literal reading of the text. The four-session class will meet through November 7. Click the link to register.

If you are a wife, widow, mother, sister or daughter (over 18 years of age) of any member of the Knights of Columbus, in any parish, you are eligible to join the Knights of Columbus Ladies' Auxiliary! Dr. James Speer will be the guest speaker at the Prime Timers meeting on November 12, speaking on the topic of "The Cognitive Psychology of Aging: How We Deteriorate and Compensate." Dr. Speer was a faculty member at Stephen F. Austin University from 1980-2003. He served as Dean of Liberal Arts from 1995-2000 and retired with the title of Professor Emeritus.

St. Catherine's Youth Ministry is holding its annual Friendsgiving Social event for students in grades 7-12 on Sunday, November 16 in Siena Hall. The Scouts of Troop 448 will host a Flag Retirement ceremony on Monday, November 17, starting at 7 p.m. in the St. Catherine of Siena parking lot. The Knights of Columbus 4th degree will fallout for the ceremony. Parishioners are welcome to attend and can also bring a U.S. flag that needs to be properly retired if they have one. The Apostles of Mary Rosary Group will celebrate with a Rosary in the Day Chapel at 11:20 a.m., noon Mass before daily Mass. After Mass, join us in the Parish Center for lunch with your fellow parishioners.
