We invite you to join our Centering Prayer and Lectio Divina group. Centering Prayer is a way of opening our whole being to God, beyond thoughts, words, and emotions. It is a simple and practical way of preparing the heart and mind to experience God's presence and action within us by letting go of our habitual way of thinking. It is not meant to replace other kinds of prayer. Rather, it adds depth of meaning to all prayers. It fosters a personal relationship with God and as a movement beyond conversation with Christ to communion with Christ.
Lectio Divina is translated as divine reading of scripture and goes back to Benedict of Nursia in the 6th century. Later it was formalized into four steps of reading, reflecting, responding, and resting, or lectio, meditation, oratio, contemplatio. It is reading scripture slowly and prayerfully. We let the Word of God descend from our mind into our heart, thus Scripture heals and transforms us.
Centering Prayer offers an opportunity to be drawn into an ever-deepening intimacy with God through silent prayer. The first half hour of each Centering Prayer meeting includes 20 minutes of Centering Prayer, and the second half hour of each meeting includes an experience of Lectio Divina.

Contemplative Foundations 101 with Fr. Carl Arico - March 10
Please join us on March 10 for a special evening in the with Fr. Carl Arico, longtime teacher and practitioner of Centering Prayer and friend of Fr. Thomas Keating, who will share some insights on the spiritual journey rooted in the teachings of the Christian Contemplative Tradition.
