Fall Parish Book Study - Opening to God: A Guide to Prayer Session 1: Wednesdays Beginning September 2 at 6:30 p.m. Session 2: Fridays Beginning September 4 at 10:30 a.m. Parish Center | Room 233/234 “The desire to pray is itself a clear sign of the Lord’s presence…[and] the art of listening is at the heart of genuine prayer.” Great teachers of prayer in our tradition show us ways to open ourselves to God, to grow in our ability to listen and truly hear what God is trying to say. True dialogue with God takes years to cultivate. Whether you are looking to start fresh or deepen your prayer life, you are invited to join us as we journey through the book Opening to God: A Guide to Prayer by Thomas H. Green, S.J. this fall. We will touch on prayer methods from St. Ignatius to St. Theresa of Avila, how to dispose ourselves to listen more deeply to God, and ways to discern what God is saying once we are able to stop talking and “have ears to hear.” These gatherings will be led by our parish Pastoral Associate, Marti Salas. Centering Prayer Meets on Mondays via ZOOM at 3 p.m.; Meets in-person on Wednesdays at 1 p.m. in the Cenacle
Centering Prayer is a way of opening our whole being to God, beyond thoughts, words, and emotions. It is a simple and practical way of preparing the heart and mind to experience God's presence and action within us by letting go of our habitual way of thinking. It is not meant to replace other kinds of prayer. Rather, it adds depth of meaning to all prayers. It fosters a personal relationship with God and as a movement beyond conversation with Christ to communion with Christ. For more information and to receive a Zoom link, please contact: Marianne Metzner at (512) 203-5460 or [email protected].
