Saint Catherine of Siena was a Third Order Dominican known for her contemplation and prayer—as well as her involvement in Church and civil affairs. During the time when there were two and three popes each claiming the papacy, Saint Catherine sided with Pope Urban VI. She was named a Doctor of the Church in 1970. In response to our Holy Father Pope Leo’s call for all Catholics to unite in a Prayer Vigil for Peace on April 11th, we will offer a prayer service at Saint Catherine on Saturday at 6:15 PM, after the conclusion of the 5 PM Mass. The service, which will be offered in the presence of our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament, will include community prayer, readings from sacred scripture, moments of personal prayer, the Holy Father’s message to the Church, music and Benediction. Please answer the call to pray for peace with your fellow Catholics around the world – we hope to see you then!
Divine Mercy Sunday was established by Pope Saint John Paul II in the year 2000. The feast, which falls on the Second Sunday of Easter, recognizes the abundant mercy offered to us through Jesus. John Paul II understood the Resurrection as the “miracle of mercy” which “radically changed humanity’s destiny.” At St. Catherine of Siena, we will celebrate on Sunday, April 12, at 2:30 p.m. in the Church with adoration, scripture, silent prayer, benediction and the singing of the Chaplet of Divine Mercy – all in just over an hour! All are welcome.
